GHS Alumni Association Hall of Fame Recipients

Lois Wilson Newton

Induction year:  2023

  • Education:  Lois graduated in the top 2% of her class from Georgetown High School in 1956 and earned an A.B. degree in English with a minor in French from Kentucky State University in 1960.

  • Teaching Career:  A retired educator, Lois taught for 32 years in the Onslow County School System, including six years at her Alma Mater and 26 years at Richlands High School, where she was the first African American English teacher.

  • Community Engagement:  Active in church and community service, she was a founding member of J.T. Kerr Memorial Baptist Church and a charter member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc®, serving in various leadership roles.

  • Hobbies:  Lois enjoys reading, writing poetry, and playing games.

Demetria Yvette Lightfoot

Induction year:  2023

  • Early Life: Demetria was born in    Jacksonville, North Carolina.

  • Career: With over 30 years in Early Childhood Education, Demetria has been the Center Director at Sunshine House Early Learning Academy for 28 years and on the Executive Board of the Georgia Child Care Association

  • .Education:  She earned her CDA in Early Childhood Education, a Bachelor's degree in 2020, and a Master's in Leadership from Grand Canyon University in 2022, 

  • Community Involvement:  Demetria has been involved in various activities, including being a WNBA member, supporting several football teams, and working with the Georgia Chapter, holding multiple leadership roles and encouraging family involvement in the Georgetown High School history.
